Being a Sanibel based General Contractor and Resident we are able to give special attention to our clients. We are working with folks now to rebuild new or reconstruct their homes. We also are working with condo owners who have lost their homes.

Who is Island Homes' Licensed Contractor?

Jonathan Tongyai is a Florida Certified General Contractor. Jonathan started his journey in construction at a young age working in the trades. He obtained his business degree from Edison College back in 1985 then after working in the field for five years he was accepted to the University of Florida and obtained his Bachelor of Science in Building Construction from the M.E. Rinker School of Building Construction. He served as the National Student President for ABC (Associated Builders and Contractors). During his final year of his education he interned with Walbridge Contracting on a million square foot project in Hollywood Florida. The finished that project and then sent to Darin GA as project engineer to build Magnolia Bluff Shops. Once he received his degree he was hired by Ninteman Construction, a subsidiary of Sundt Corp., in San Diego, CA. There he was on the Design Build management team to construct several medical buildings as well as Sony USA Headquarters. Ninteman then sent him to Dallas to build two banks for one of their lead clients. He was then hired by MAPP construction in Dallas to be their Director of Construction. After several years with MAPP Jonathan was hired by Choate Construction in Atlanta GA. There he was a senior project manager for Roswell Presbyterian church and an assisted living facility as well as a few tenant improvement projects. He was then hired by WH Bass where he was a Senior Project Manager for several projects including Chick Filet and Longhorn Steak houses all over the Southeast. He was then picked up by KDA Financial as their Construction Manager where he renovated and constructed banks from NYC to Fernadina Beach to Central City, KY. After Jonathan married they decided to leave busy Atlanta and go back to quaint Sanibel Island where Jonathan had spent many of his early years. In 2004 Jonathan received his GC license and focused primarily on residential renovations since Hurricane Charley had just hit the islands. He was awarded Best Contractor the first year! Later he began to focus on both new construction, Custom ICF Homes and renovations. Now he focuses building the strongest homes with architectural details that any homeowner would love to have. He has dedicated most of his life to construction and travels many times a year to conferences like World of Concrete, Kitchen and Bath Show and International Builders Show to keep up with what is happening in the industry and to receive advanced training that he brings back to Island Homes. He is a Certified Remodeler with NARI and has won a national award for historic renovation with NARI. He has also earned his Certified Kitchen Designer designation from the NKBA. Jonathan is a current member of the NAHB (National Association of Home Builders), ABC (Associated Builders and Contractors, as well as ACI (American Concrete Institute)
